🏒 Game of the Day: Calgary Flames vs. Edmonton Oilers
8:30 PM ET | Prime (Canada) · Rogers Place, Edmonton
McDavid has an assist in all 12 of Edmonton’s games, tying the NHL record for the longest season-opening assist streak shared by Wayne Gretzky, Ken Linseman and Sebastian Aho. One more and it is his alone. He has 34 points (eight goals, 26 assists) and needs four more to tie Mario Lemieux’s record of 38 points in October.
Calgary comes up the highway as the hottest team in Alberta. The Flames have won four straight and are chasing their first five-game winning streak since early 2024. Devin Cooley, expected to start again, has allowed six goals on 133 shots over his past four games (.955 save percentage). Edmonton, 8-2-2, has given up 15 goals in its past three.
Prediction: McDavid takes the assist record outright and Edmonton ends Calgary’s streak.
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Washington Capitals
7:30 PM ET | TNT / truTV / HBO Max (US) · Capital One Arena, Washington
Backstrom finished with 762 assists, 279 of them on Ovechkin goals. Ovechkin is one assist away from matching him for the Capitals record, and nine points from becoming the 10th player in NHL history with 1,700. Washington is 6-4-0 and has won three of four. Philadelphia, 3-7-4, rallied from 3-0 down against Columbus on Monday before losing in overtime, and Trevor Zegras needs one assist to become the first Flyer with 50 in his first 96 games with the club.
Prediction: Ovechkin ties Backstrom and Washington wins.
New Jersey Devils vs. Colorado Avalanche
9:00 PM ET | MSGSN · Altitude · Ball Arena, Denver
New Jersey has won four straight, a run that started with a 4-3 win over Colorado on Oct. 20, and Connor Hellebuyck made 17 saves in a 5-1 win in Dallas in his Devils debut on Tuesday. Jake Allen is likely to start in Denver. The Avalanche, last season’s Presidents’ Trophy winners, are 6-5-1 after a 6-2 loss in Nashville, their third loss in four games, and coach Jared Bednar has asked for more urgency.
Prediction: Colorado responds at home and ends the Devils’ streak.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Seattle Kraken
10:00 PM ET | Prime Video · KONG · Sportsnet Ontario (Canada) · Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle
Toronto’s injury list keeps growing. Kirill Marchenko, who has 14 points in 14 games, left Monday’s 5-2 loss in Calgary and is week to week, joining John Tavares, Nick Blankenburg and Marshall Rifai. Seattle, 7-4-1, is 2-1-0 on a four-game homestand and looking to bounce back from a 5-1 loss to Minnesota.
Prediction: Seattle takes advantage of a short-handed Toronto lineup.
Four games, the Battle of Alberta and two record chases in Edmonton and Washington. Check local listings for regional broadcast details.
