🏒 Game of the Day: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Minnesota Wild
8:00 PM ET | Wild+ · Scripps · Grand Casino Arena, St. Paul
Vegas is 5-1-0, unbeaten on the road and going for a fifth straight win. The power play has been the engine: the Golden Knights have scored with the man advantage in five of six games, rank fifth in the league at 30.4 percent and are tied with Carolina for second with seven power-play goals. Two of them came in Saturday’s 2-1 overtime win over Los Angeles.
Minnesota, 3-1-1, has the hottest goal-scorer in the league. Kirill Kaprizov is tied for the NHL lead with six goals after a hat trick in Saturday’s 4-1 win in Florida, and leads the Wild with eight points. Quinn Hughes has an assist in all five games to open the season and is second on the team with seven points.
With Brock Faber out after skull surgery, the Wild’s penalty kill against that Vegas power play is the matchup to watch.
Prediction: Kaprizov stays hot and the Wild end the Vegas streak.
Ottawa Senators vs. New Jersey Devils
7:00 PM ET | NHL Network (US) · SN+ / TVA Sports (Canada) · Prudential Center, Newark
Ottawa is 4-1-0, its best start since 2014-15, and Tim Stutzle is leading the way with eight points (four goals, four assists). Two more would make him the seventh player in franchise history with 10 points in the first six games, joining a list that includes Marian Hossa, Jason Spezza and Brady Tkachuk. New Jersey is 2-2-0 after a 4-1 win over Vancouver on Saturday, when Nico Hischier scored his 200th and 201st career goals. Hischier reached 200 in his 613th game, the second-fastest by a Swiss-born player behind Timo Meier.
Prediction: Stutzle reaches 10 points and Ottawa wins again.
Florida Panthers vs. Buffalo Sabres
1:00 PM ET | Sportsnet / TVA Sports (Canada) · MSG-B · KeyBank Center, Buffalo
A holiday matinee between two power plays that have not worked. Florida is last in the NHL at 3.6 percent (1-for-28) and Buffalo is 30th at 5.9 percent (1-for-17), although the Sabres have gone 6-for-15 on the power play in their past five games against the Panthers. Matthew Tkachuk has four points during a four-game point streak and has scored in back-to-back games; Tage Thompson has five points for Buffalo. Florida is 2-1-2 and has dominated this matchup lately, going 14-5-0 against Buffalo since 2020-21. The Sabres are 2-3-0.
Prediction: Florida’s recent edge in this series holds.
