Ottawa Senators vs Nashville Predators Preview, What to Watch

The Ottawa Senators may be able to produce some much-needed offense while traveling thanks to their recent goal production spike.

Additionally, it might prolong the Nashville Predators' woes, as they have already suffered three straight losses before Monday's visit against a Senators team looking to win five in a row.

Ottawa just had a flawless four-game homestand, scoring 16–6 more points than its opponents. In the last two games, including Saturday's 6-0 thumping of Minnesota, eleven of those goals have been scored.

Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson, and Tim Stutzle combined for three goals and five assists on Saturday, while defenseman Jake Sanderson scored one goal and provided three assists.

In addition to scoring three power-play goals in the third period against the Wild, the Senators also earned their fourth short-handed goal in three games.

Ottawa is now in a position to snap a seven-year playoff drought after going 9-2-1 since January 9.

The senators' first priority is to improve the situation on the road. They were coming off a 2-0 setback at Boston and a 5-0 loss at the New York Rangers going into their four-game homestand. Ottawa has won three straight away games before then.

In a 3-1 victory over Nashville on December 7, Stutzle, who has seven points (two goals, five assists) during the Senators' winning run, contributed two assists.

Last Wednesday, the Predators lost 3-1 to Vancouver, ending their four-game winning streak at home. Following a season-high run of five straight victories, Nashville is currently on a four-game losing streak, which included that setback.

The Predators lost 3-0 at Pittsburgh on Saturday, allowing just 25 shots on goal despite Juuse Saros' 33 saves.

The Predators have only managed six goals in their four-game losing streak, and their top scorer, Filip Forsberg (18 goals, 31 assists), has gone three games without a point.

Leevi Merilainen, a rookie for Ottawa with a 1.99 goals-against average, recorded his third shutout in 11 starts this season on Saturday, stopping all 16 shots he faced. Anton Forsberg, who has stopped 49 of 51 shots in his last two road starts, might lose to Merilainen.

Goalie Linus Ullmark, who has been sidelined since December 22 due to a back ailment, may also return to the Senators. In his previous eight starts for Ottawa, Ullmark is 7-1-0 with a 1.08 GAA and.963 save percentage.

In his last four games for the Senators, Sanderson has two goals and six assists.

In his last three home games, center Tommy Novak of Nashville has recorded two goals and three assists.
