One game on the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule tonight, and it is the only series still alive. The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Bell Centre for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final leading Montreal 2-1, with Vegas already waiting in the Stanley Cup Final.

Carolina has a series lead in the Eastern Conference Final for the first time in 20 years, and it has come the hard way – back-to-back overtime wins after being blown out 6-2 in the opener. Nikolaj Ehlers ended Game 2, and Andrei Svechnikov finished Game 3 at 14:06 of overtime on Monday, taking a Seth Jarvis pass above the right circle and scoring through a Sebastian Aho screen.
The Hurricanes are now 5-0 in overtime this postseason, only the fourth team in NHL history to win at least its first five extra-time games in a single playoff run, and they are 10-1 overall. Taylor Hall summed up the shift bluntly: the rust from the 11-day layoff is gone.
Montreal has plenty to be proud of and plenty to fix. Jakub Dobes made 35 saves in Game 3 and has kept the Canadiens in every game of this round, while Lane Hutson now has 15 points in 17 playoff games – the fourth defenseman in franchise history to reach that mark in a single postseason, alongside Larry Robinson and Chris Chelios. But the Habs have conceded the opening goal in all three games, and a would-be Noah Dobson go-ahead goal in Game 3 was wiped out for offside.
The bigger concern is home ice. Montreal reached this round despite a combined 2-4 record at home across two seven-game series, and has been at its best on the road at 7-2. Tonight the Bell Centre has to matter, because a 3-1 deficit against a team that wins every overtime it plays would be close to fatal.
Prediction: Carolina’s forecheck controls another one – Hurricanes take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
Vegas Completes the Sweep
The Golden Knights finished off Colorado 2-1 on Tuesday to complete a four-game sweep of the Presidents’ Trophy winners and reach the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in nine seasons.
Mark Stone opened the scoring at 4:42 of the first, gloving down a long Brayden McNabb flip in the neutral zone, breaking in alone and beating Mackenzie Blackwood with a backhand-to-forehand move. Cole Smith, acquired at the trade deadline, added the winner with a little over five minutes left, and Carter Hart made 20 saves. Gabriel Landeskog pulled one back on a six-on-five with just over two minutes remaining, but Colorado – playing without Valeri Nichushkin and with Nathan MacKinnon less than fully fit – could not find the equalizer.
John Tortorella, hired on March 30, becomes just the third coach in NHL history to reach a Cup Final after taking over in the final 10 games of a season, joining Roger Neilson in 1982 and Larry Robinson in 2000. Vegas lost the 2018 final to Washington and won the 2023 title against Florida.
Vegas now rests and watches. One more Carolina win puts the Hurricanes within a game of their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006 – and Montreal has to answer tonight or run out of road.
