One game on the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule tonight, and it is the most interesting series in the bracket right now. The Colorado Avalanche visit the Minnesota Wild for Game 4 in St. Paul, two nights after finally losing a playoff game.

Colorado arrived in Minnesota unbeaten and left Saturday with a lot to think about. The Wild handed the Avalanche their first loss of the postseason by a 5-1 score, and they did it by being the more urgent team from the opening minutes.
Kirill Kaprizov set the tone with a four-on-four goal late in the first period and assisted on the next two. Quinn Hughes followed with a four-on-three power-play goal barely 90 seconds later, and when Ryan Hartman batted in a deflected power-play shot 4:23 into the second, Jared Bednar pulled Scott Wedgewood in favor of Mackenzie Blackwood. Brock Faber finished with a goal and two assists, Matt Boldy added another, and Mats Zuccarello had two helpers.
The most important development for Minnesota was in net. Jesper Wallstedt, who allowed eight goals in the Game 1 shootout and was replaced by Filip Gustavsson for Game 2, came back with 35 saves and looked like the goaltender who carried the Wild past Dallas. His own summary of the job was refreshingly simple: stop the puck.
For Colorado, the concerning detail is that only Nathan MacKinnon’s line generated much of anything, and the defensive coverage slipped noticeably after two tidy games in Denver. Bednar was measured but pointed afterward, saying Minnesota reached a level his team did not. That is a fixable problem for a group that set an NHL record by having 12 different players score in the first two games of the series – but it needs fixing tonight, because Game 5 is in Denver on Wednesday and a 2-2 series would hand Minnesota real belief.
Prediction: Colorado’s depth reasserts itself – Avalanche win a tight one and take a 3-1 series lead back home.
What’s Next This Week
The schedule fills back up on Tuesday with two games: Buffalo at Montreal in Game 4 and Anaheim at Vegas in Game 5. This series resumes Wednesday in Denver at 8:00 PM ET on TNT, truTV and HBO Max. In the East, Carolina has already advanced to the Conference Final after sweeping Philadelphia and is waiting on the Sabres-Canadiens winner.
Minnesota has home ice for one more night and a goaltender who has found his form. If the Wild can win again, a series that looked like a formality after two games in Denver becomes a genuine fight.
