San Jose Sharks vs Winnipeg Jets Preview, What to Watch

On Monday night, the Winnipeg Jets will host the struggling San Jose Sharks in an attempt to win ten straight games.

With a 4-3 shootout victory in St. Louis on Saturday night, the Jets ended the 4 Nations Face-Off break and set a franchise record with their ninth consecutive victory.

After losing 3-2 to the Calgary Flames on Sunday night, San Jose travels for the second game in a seven-game season.

For the Sharks, who have dropped five straight games and 11 of their last 12 games, rookie Macklin Celebrini scored and Tyler Toffoli had a goal and an assist.  Despite making 33 stops, Alexandar Georgiev lost his sixth consecutive start.

Celebrini's 18th goal put him one point ahead of Matvei Michkov of Philadelphia in the NHL rookie standings.

The Jets became the first club in the NHL to reach 40 victories and are still leading the Western Conference with 83 points after Gabe Vilardi scored twice and Nikolaj Ehlers scored the other goal in regulation on Saturday.

Eric Comrie made 21 saves, including stopping all three of the shots he faced in the shootout, and Kyle Connor scored the game-winning goal.  Cole Perfetti, who has one goal and seven assists, increased his point streak to six games with two assists.

At 19:32, Vilardi knotted the score 3-3 thanks to a tip off Connor's shot.  For the fourth time in his career, Connor reached the 70-point milestone (30 goals, 40 assists).

Josh Morrissey and Connor Hellebuyck, the goalie for Winnipeg, are anticipated to make a comeback to the starting lineup on Monday.  Following their participation in the 4 Nations Face-Off, they did not attend the game on Saturday.

On October 18, the Jets defeated the Sharks 8-3 in their first encounter, with two goals each from Ehlers and Perfetti.  On Dec. 17, the Jets came back for a 4-3 victory, with Adam Lowry scoring the game-winning goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation after Connor had already scored two goals.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Los Angeles Kings Preview, What to Watch

On Monday, the Los Angeles Kings will face the Vegas Golden Knights in an attempt to continue their winning streak and move up in the Pacific Division.

After defeating the Utah Hockey Club 5-3 on Saturday, the Kings are now 4-0-1 in their previous five games.  Drew Doughty may have had a breakthrough performance during his challenging season when he recorded a goal and two assists against Utah.

Doughty wasn't able to play again until January 29 after injuring his left ankle during preseason play.  Before leaving to play for Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off, the defenseman had just one assist in six games, but Doughty's impressive tournament performance has given him newfound energy.

A Los Angeles squad that is already in the playoffs as the third-place team in the Pacific Division would greatly benefit from an in-form Doughty.  The Kings' schedule is particularly favorable because Los Angeles will host 18 of their last 28 games.

The Kings have the highest home point percentage (.826) in the NHL this season with an 18-3-2 record at home.  The Knights defeated the Kings 6-1 in Las Vegas on October 22 and defeated the Golden Knights 6-3 on October 30 as part of this stellar home record.

After being cut loose by the St. Louis Blues at the end of January, Saad joined Vegas, where he has two goals and an assist in five games.

Los Angeles' Darcy Kuemper is probably going to start in goal.  Kuemper has made 30 starts this season and is 17-6-6 with a stellar 2.22 goals-against average.

Ilya Samsonov (13-7-2, 2.72 GAA) may be the favorite to start against the Kings because Adin Hill played for Vegas against Vancouver.  For the past two months, Vegas has primarily alternated goalkeeper starts.

With 19 goals and 50 assists, Jack Eichel leads the Golden Knights with 69 points.  With 46 points apiece, Anze Kopitar (13 goals, 33 assists) and Adrian Kempe (25 goals, 21 assists) are tied for the Kings' team lead.
